Since we’re planning a longish excursion next year we’ve been cutting back a lot on what we’re spending, and especially watching the impulse purchases. One thing that was contributing to our impulse buy’s was television. You may not realize it, but with so many product placements, jingles, ads, etc you remember much more than your concious mind realizes. And soon driving down the street is “oh yeah, I wanted to try that new burger from such and such, or I wanted to rent that new movie”.

So far so good. We’ve drastically reduced our spending lately by doing things like cancelling cable, reducing eating out, getting any debt paid off as we can. We’re getting there, and getting ready for the trip.
