The Great Attractions of the Big Apple



New York City ranks as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Ask any traveler and chances are, New York City is one of the places he or she would like to visit. Traveling to New York City offers a lot of excitement. Its rich history has made it a favorite of history buffs. Those who love cosmopolitan lifestyle prefer the Big Apple since it is considered the capital of the world, where top establishments and businesses operate.

Foreign travelers will also appreciate New York City since there are a lot of cultures that flourish here. Asians, Europeans, and Latin people are some of the people who have found a home in New York City. Almost 30 percent of the population of the city comes from foreign-born individuals. Travel to New York is convenient for foreign travelers with the provision of various services for tourists. In fact, the New York City Hall has translators that offer service to foreign travelers who may have a hard time in conversing with locals. Walking around the Big Apple is also similar to visiting a cultural museum, as various establishments catering to different cultures inundate the city. For instance, one can head to Little Italy where Italian restaurants and shops are located. The city's Chinatown is also one of the biggest in the world, where Chinese establishments like restaurants and shops are found.

Traveling to New York City is also fun considering that there are a lot of activities throughout the year. For instance, the San Gennaro festival happens every September in Little Italy. You can get a tasting of the best Italian cuisine during this festival even as street parades make the festival all the more spectacular. Every March, many people go to Fifth Avenue to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Puerto Ricans also celebrate their festival during June. As it is, many celebrations are held in downtown New York City which can be of interest to any type of traveler.

Travel to New York City will never be complete without visiting some of its revered attractions such as the Empire State Building.  Named after the state of New York, it was once the world's tallest building, until it was bumped off the list by the World Trade Center. It was again reclaimed its status as the tallest structure, at least in New York City, following the terrorist attacks of 2001. The Empire State Building has long been a favorite of many travelers because of its rich history. It was put up in the 18th century, and through the years, has been closely identified with the Big Apple.

One of the highlights of any travel to New York City is visiting the Statue of Liberty. Along with the Empire State Building, it is one of the more important landmarks in the Big Apple. The Statue of Liberty is located in Liberty Island just a couple of miles away from downtown New York City. It was given by the government of France to the people of the US as a gesture of friendship. Today, this amazing structure welcomes tourists and returning locales to New York City.
